Teoh Jiun Ee met fellow CARSOME co-founder Eric Cheng while working in media and advertising. A difficult car-buying experience in his family helped prompt their exploration of a business that could make comparing offers easier.
The early model focused on new cars, before the founders redirected their efforts towards used-car selling. Their work included expanding inspection centres and making inspection reports more consistent. During the pandemic, Teoh also helped develop CARSOME Academy after the team identified a need for formal training for vehicle inspectors. In a 2021 company interview, he described the academy as both a way to improve automotive practice and an opportunity to develop people.
