Ho Kwon Ping's hospitality story is connected to the restoration of a former tin mine in Phuket. Banyan Group's founders describe that project as the starting point for a business shaped by place.

Ho Kwon Ping co-founded Banyan Group with Claire Chiang. The company dates its founding to 1994, while his own account traces its early vision to restoring an abandoned tin mine in Phuket and developing its first resort there. The hospitality business grew to encompass hotels, spas, residences, food and retail.

For Ho, that history connects the guest experience with the character of a destination. In his founder message, he describes hotels as dependent on the landscapes, cultures and communities around them. Resource use, environmental care and long-term value form part of that stated approach. The opening of Mandai Rainforest Resort in 2025 marked the group’s first hotel in Singapore.
