Nadiem Makarim co-founded Gojek and helped develop an Indonesian business connecting everyday services through a digital platform. By the time of its October 2019 leadership transition, Gojek’s activities extended across transport, food delivery and payments, with operations reaching Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The company’s statement of 22 October 2019 recorded Makarim’s departure after nine years building the business. Kevin Aluwi and Andre Soelistyo took over as co-CEOs, having already worked alongside him in running the company. Gojek stated that he would retain neither an executive nor an advisory role. His profile therefore centres on the entrepreneurial period that helped establish the platform and the team that continued its development.
