Tan Hooi Ling co-founded Grab with Anthony Tan, beginning with the MyTeksi taxi-booking service in Malaysia in 2012. Her contribution extended into the company’s technology organisation, encompassing product development, design, engineering, data science and analytics.
In a company interview published in January 2024, she reflected on leadership as an introvert and on learning to speak publicly through practice. She also described the value of working with a co-founder whose style differed from her own. Her approach to experimentation allowed room for failure while requiring teams to define what success would mean. At the end of 2023, she moved from operational responsibilities into an advisory role.
